Reading Program in Tysons

Reading offers a lifetime of rewards, both inside and outside the classroom. Yet, for many students, reading skills can be hard to learn. Our ReadRx® reading program gives kids, teens, and adults a way to build these skills and become stronger, more confident readers.

ReadRx® teaches reading by mirroring the way humans naturally learn language. This makes it an ideal reading program for kids who are learning to read for the first time, giving them a strong foundation for reading, writing, and spelling.

Our results have shown the impact of ReadRx® on students of all ages. In a research study, students who reported reading below grade level improved reading skills by 3.6 years on average – all within six months of ReadRx® training!

Our unique training method has also helped older children, teens, and adults improve core reading skills. What’s more, parents of children with dyslexia have reported improved reading skills and school grades after brain training with LearningRx.

(Results based on studies and surveys of past clients. You or your child may or may not achieve the same results.)

How Our Reading Program Works

A Sound-to-Code Reading Skills Program

The ReadRx® reading program uses a sound-to-code approach to help learners build and improve reading skills.

ReadRx® includes brain training exercises for a range of cognitive skills tied to reading, with a special focus on auditory processing skills. Auditory processing is the cognitive skill that allows readers to:

  • Recognize sounds made by letters and letter combinations
  • Break up unfamiliar words into smaller units of letters
  • Translate these units of letters into units of sound
  • Combine these sound units back together into full words
  • Turn imagined words into written and spoken language

Our reading program starts by teaching readers how to identify letters and letter combinations and connect them with the right sounds. Students begin with basic consonant sounds. They then work their way up to more complex consonant and vowel sounds.

At each step, students learn the different ways these sounds can be written in text, working from the most likely spelling to the least likely spelling. Students also learn how different letters can interact to produce new sounds and unexpected spellings.

As students progress through ReadRx®, they learn how to blend, sequence, and process these sounds into words. Instead of memorizing how words are spelled, students build the core skills they need to intuitively sound out complex words while reading.

Over the course of this program, students develop a strong system for understanding written language. This gives students the foundational skills they need for a lifetime of reading!

The Benefits of Brain Training for Readers

ReadRx® is based on the power of brain training, which builds cognitive skills through one-on-one games and activities. Each student works with a dedicated brain trainer throughout the training process.

Our reading program uses the principles of brain training to develop and improve reading skills. These principles include:

  • Teaching reading skills in a logical, intuitive order
  • Gradually increasing the difficulty of reading exercises
  • Repeating activities and drills to quickly strengthen reading skills
  • Offering immediate feedback, corrections, and encouragement
  • Customizing the ReadRx® program for each student

Before starting our reading program, learners take a Brain Skills Assessment. The Brain Skills Assessment maps out each learner’s cognitive strengths. At the same time, it identifies the areas where brain training can make the biggest difference.

This allows us to create a custom training plan for each student’s unique needs and cognitive abilities. For some students, this may mean focusing on how they visually process written text. For others, it could mean focusing on how they verbally and mentally sound out words. ReadRx® plans can last from four to six months, depending on the reader’s individual needs.

By tailoring our program, we can help each student improve the specific skills that will make them a more confident and successful reader.
