When a child struggles to read, it impacts almost every academic area as well as their confidence.  Roman was falling further behind as he struggled to sound out words and apply phonics rules. To be a fluent reader, these are the two most critical skills as an individual’s effectiveness in these areas depends on key cognitive skills.

Cognitive Skills and Reading

Our language has more non-phonetic than phonetic words which puts pressure on memory to be a good reader.  For example, there is no logic that can be applied to understand why a word like “said” is spelled the way it is.

In addition, the ability to sound out words and decode depends on auditory processing skills.  Our ability to segment, analyze and blend sounds.

Roman’s reading struggles related to these areas and tutoring or reading interventions were not addressing these root cause issues.  However, his LearningRx training unlocked his reading ability.

A few months into Roman’s training his mom wrote, “We came in looking for additional help, especially in reading, for our son who is so bright but was struggling with his schoolwork. The assessment affirmed what we thought as far as some cognitive skills which needed strengthening. I homeschool so I’ve been able to give him tons of one-on-one tutoring, but the improvement has been so slow. We are so excited about his progress and believe we have found just the right tool to make the bridges in his mind and give him the help he needs. Very thankful to have found this place!”

Roman’s LearningRx Reading Results

Roman’s LearningRx Woodbury training results were tremendous! His auditory processing shot up to over the 70th percentile and his memory jumped to over the 75th percentile.  The result of addressing the root cause?  He is now reading at grade level. His parents are excited about the changes they have seen, “The improved confidence and reading speed is absolutely tangible for Roman. We are so thankful for all the learning growth and potential unlocked because of LearningRx. We are thrilled!”
