Where Are They Now: Logan’s LearningRx Story

Name of LearningRx Graduate: Logan Rubatzky
Current Age: 13
Date of LearningRx Graduation: April 2024

When we discovered LearningRx, Logan had just finished 5th grade. He had always struggled with reading and comprehension. He was always “below level.” He spent years in reading RTI, and he honestly hated anything that had to do with reading. Logan was a very hard worker, but school work took a very long time, often had to be corrected, and was frustrating for Logan to complete. We had a feeling that his struggle was due to some sort of processing problem, but the only one we were familiar with was dyslexia.

We had previously tested Logan for dyslexia at school and were told he was borderline, but they wouldn’t confirm anything. We had sought help multiple times at school since we knew something was wrong, but we hadn’t gotten any solid answers. I came across a LearningRx booth at a homeschool showcase and was intrigued by their assessment of multiple ways that a brain processes information. We were hopeful we would get some answers after Logan’s initial assessment even though we had never heard of cognitive training. We were impressed with LearningRx’s very thorough assessment of Logan, and the report we got afterwards. So many things made sense after hearing that he had auditory processing issues, along with a few other things going on.

This explained why he had a speech delay and pronunciation issues. Our meeting with Michelle helped us understand why reading was hard because the phonetics Logan’s brain processed with speech didn’t match what he was seeing on the page as he tried to decode words and sounds.

As Logan’s parents, we were enthusiastic for him to begin brain training. He was not very excited about it at first, and initially it was extremely challenging for him. Something as simple as clapping on a metronome beat would frustrate him to no end. But we stuck with it, several days a week at home or in person, and we saw huge growth in Logan’s ability to listen to instructions, complete timely work independently, process conversations, and read!

Before LearningRx we had to support Logan daily with homework, pre-reading texts with him before a test and correcting mistakes. After his graduation he was so much more independent. He was less frustrated, and needed help much less often.

Logan now attends a private school focused on student-paced work, entrepreneurship and leadership. Because he can work at his own pace, he completed his middle school reading content a year early and has moved into high school reading and writing.

He used to be behind in everything, and now he is ahead!

A year after graduating LearningRx Logan chose to learn how to solve a rubik’s cube. He took it upon himself to watch tutorials, and now he can solve one in under 20 seconds. He attends cubing competitions all over. Logan is a leader in his school, often getting elected into management positions to oversee their end-of-session exhibitions. He even is encouraged to mentor other students. Honestly, he’s a completely different student now compared to previously! Part of this is his learning environment, but it’s also attributed to his brain training.

Logan is very interested in exploration of our solar system and the possibility of future space travel. He considers the possibility of a future in the Space Force, but is open to multiple options.

Thinking about Logan before and after LearningRx we see such a different person.

His grit and motivation were in there, but his gifts were locked up in the struggle to process information correctly. By the end of his brain training, it was unimaginable that when we started simply clapping on beat was hard for him. He has truly blossomed into an incredibly articulate, confident person. What more can a parent wish for their child?!
