Three Ways Girls Can Grow Their Brains

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Celebrated since 1926, the Girl Scout’sWorld Thinking Day is held on February 22. Since this year’s themeis “Grow,” one-on-one brain training company LearningRx (www.LearningRx.com)is offering three ways that girls can grow their brains.

  • Learn something new. There are lots of studies showing that learning a new skill, such asplaying the piano or speaking French, can help form new connections inthe brain. Inone study from the National Endowment for the Arts, people who learned a secondlanguage had sharper memories and better listening skills, as well asgreater cognitive flexibility, better problem solving and higher order thinking.
  • Enroll in personal brain training. One-on-one brain training targets attention, auditory processing, andmemory, along with visual processing, logic and reasoning and/or processingspeed to make thinking, learning, reading and remembering easier and faster. In one study of LearningRx’s ThinkRx® program, clients averageda 17-point gain in IQ score.
  • “Unlike brain games and computer-based brain training, the face-to-facenature of the training relationship allows brain trainers to provide abetter experience,” says LearningRx Chief Research Officer TanyaMitchell. “Personal brain trainers can customize each training sessionand encourage girls to work past their comfort levels.”

  • Feed your brain. In addition to ditching foods with ingredients that are bad for you—includingsugar, food dye, high fructose corn syrup, MSG and artificial preservatives, among others—there are things you should be adding to your dietto help your brain function at peak performance. A few examples: A recentstudy of mice found that poor learners improved their memory and learningability after eating cinnamon. Eating healthy foods like salmon, sardines, walnuts and blueberries can boost brain function. Drinking more waterto avoid dehydration can help your brain perform at its best.
