Why Try Personal Brain Training First

If you’ve spent money on brain games, brain training apps, or tutoring, you’re probably curious about how personal brain training is different.  Here are a few examples of how we know brain-boosting options work and why you should try brain training first.

Brain Games and Brain Training Apps

While brain games and brain training apps are fun, they’re not necessarily all designed to strengthen your cognitive skills. Some are purely for entertainment, and others claim to fight everything from cognitive decline to dementia. Do your homework before shelling out a bunch of money for something that makes big promises. Any reputable programs will be able to back up their claims with science-backed results. As a general rule, use brain games and brain training apps as a fun way to spend your time and (possibly) test your brain skills.

Tutoring for More Brain Power

Learning has two parts; academic knowledge and the underlying ability to learn. With this in mind, it’s easy to understand why tutoring may not work for some students. Tutoring helps deliver information to students who missed the first time. If your student has missed class, they may benefit from going over the content again with a tutor. But if they’re struggling in multiple classes or year after year, chances are that tutoring won’t help. There may be an issue with how the student is learning the content the first time it’s taught.

When It’s Time to Try Something Different

Do any of these examples sound familiar?;

Schoolwork takes longer or is harder for your student.

Focusing on lessons and assignments in class is difficult for your student.

Core skills like reading and math are not strong.

Tutoring hasn’t delivered the results you had hoped.

If you found any of these statements relatable, your student may just need some help building stronger learning skills.

Why Try Brain Training

At LearningRx, we focus on strengthening core learning and thinking skills. These skills can help make it easier for students to understand, process, and remember what they learn. Unlike tutoring, which rehashes information from class. Personal brain training addresses the root cause of learning difficulties by targeting and improving specific cognitive skills.

We start every customized brain training program with a Brain Skills Assessment. This affordable, one-hour test tells us which brain skills—such as auditory and visual processing, attention, logic & reasoning, memory, and processing speed—are strong and which could use some work. Using these results, we build a custom brain training program for your student.

Your child or teen will be paired with their own personal brain trainer who will work with them through the duration of their program. Using challenging but fun mental exercises, their brain trainer will use intensity, loading, and feedback to work on essential cognitive skills. The first thing most parents notice is that their student has increased confidence and many of our graduates refer to the program as “life-changing.”
