Mom Joins LearningRx After Daughter’s Experience With Brain Training

After seeing her daughter Amelia Drew’s dramatic results from LearningRx personal brain training, Heather Clift wanted to be part of the solution to help others. She became a Certified Cognitive Trainer and joined the very center where her daughter completed the program. The mother of four wanted to help other children, teens, and adults who were struggling to live up to their potential and knew that her experience as a teacher could be beneficial.

Amelia Drew’s Experience

After homeschooling Amelia Drew for three years, Heather was still concerned about her daughter’s learning struggles. She was still three years behind her peers in reading and math but wanted to return to a traditional school setting.

“School was so challenging and so hard that there wasn’t any enjoyment in it,” explains Heather. “It was just one big giant task and it constantly brought frustration. By the end of fourth grade, I felt like I was crying out for help. We reached the point where we needed outside help.”

Heather scheduled a Brain Skills Assessment at the LearningRx personal brain training center in Chattanooga. At the initial consultation, the center director asked Heather which of Amelia Drew’s core cognitive skills she thought were weakest. Heather replied, “All of them?”

Indeed, the assessment showed that Amelia Drew wasn’t living up to her full academic potential. For example, she had issues with phonological processing, particularly distinguishing between vowel sounds. Her reading was choppy and Amelia was self-conscious due to an early stutter.

Using the results of the Brain Skills Assessment, the LearningRx team created a personal learning plan for Amelia. She enrolled in an Einstein program to strengthen her cognitive skills, then followed up with a ComprehendRx/StudyRx program.

It didn’t take long for Amelia to begin seeing significant improvements. Her spelling improved. She gained the confidence to read aloud in class with fluidity. Math became something she couldn’t wait to do and her face would light up when her brain training switched gears to focus on math drills. She was excited when she no longer struggled with reading directions and understood what was being asked of her.

“The brain training has really helped me with my reading,” says Amelia Drew. “I can sound out words better and I understand the now. When I’m reading each sentence, every word combines and I understand that sentence. It’s easier for me to sound out the words so I don’t have to stop and take a couple minutes to find out what that word means. [Now] I feel more confident in my reading and I don’t have to go up and ask the teacher what something means. Also, two-step math problems are so much easier for me.”

The results of personal brain training even carried over to sports. A social kid who played both softball and basketball, Amelia Drew noted that it was easier to focus on the field and court, not just the classroom. At one point, she even told her teammates to stop joking around and focus!

Heather says that since completing LearningRx personal brain training, Amelia Drew has become much more independent, confident, and organized. “She feels comfortable asking adults for help, but she also now seeks the chance to just do it on her own.”
