How Strengthening Reading Skills at LearningRx Rewrote Elle’s Future

Elle’s Reading Difficulties

We are celebrating our 17-year anniversary and looking back at some of our initial students from back in 2009. One of these is Elle. For Elle, many reading interventions and tutoring programs left her in the same spot – unable to read. Her mom, Renee, was told that her “expectations were too high” but she was not willing to accept that.

Elle’s LearningRx experience

Elle enrolled at LearningRx in Savage as they were intrigued with the LearningRx approach of identifying and addressing the root cause of reading difficulties. We were also a brand new LearningRx center, so they were hopeful, but skeptical given the many other reading help strategies they had tried.

Elle’s results were life changing! Between her 3rd and 4th grade years, Elle’s reading skills increased 4 years, and she has not looked back! This is consistent with peer-reviewed research published in the journal Psychology Research and Behavior Management that shows LearningRx training drives significant reading improvements

How LearningRx Reading Training is Different

Why was LearningRx successful for Elle when other strategies failed? Because unlike tutoring and other approaches, LearningRx identifies and addresses the root cause of reading struggles enabling us to unlock reading skills.  For example, if cognitive skills like memory, visual processing, processing speed or auditory processing are weak, the result is difficulty with decoding, reading fluency, reading comprehension, spelling, and word recognition.  If these weaknesses are not addressed, a child’s reading skills are often capped, and they will struggle with reading.  This is one reason that statistics show that students who are not caught up in reading by the end of third grade rarely catch up, as most reading strategies do not address the root cause and struggling readers continue to struggle.

Another benefit of the LearningRx reading training is that the gains are long-lasting. Elle completed one program and excelled in school after this. She is college bound!  Past clients report that cognitive skill training “unlocked” their child, and the results have allowed LearningRx graduates to excel (and often no longer need strategies like tutoring or accommodations).
