Weston, a LearningRx Savage graduate

Four Reading Levels Higher and Finally Focused — Thanks to LearningRx!

Weston’s Reading Interventions

Weston was struggling with reading and other areas.  His mom shared, “Weston has consistently struggled with learning to read. He also has scored very low in his reading & math assessments at school. He is in the high-risk area for reading and the teacher suggested summer school. We want to see what brain training can do for him. We feel the brain training will empower him and encourage him to enjoy learning and school.”

In spite of reading interventions in school, Weston continued to struggle with reading.  This is not uncommon as reading interventions like tutoring can help, but they are often not addressing the root cause of the reading struggle and so kids continue to struggle.

How To Unlock Reading Potential

Weaknesses in long-term memory and auditory processing were the main reasons Weston struggled to read – which is a common profile for most struggling readers.

Non-phenetic words – like “said” or “laugh” – make up the majority of our language and all the strange spellings and exceptions make memory a critical reading skill.  Memory is also critical to reading comprehension and retention.

Auditory or phonological processing provides the ability to blend and segment sounds which enables students to decode and sound out words.  When these skills are weak, reading is incredibly difficult for students.

Reading 30 minutes each evening or reading tutoring can help move reading skills in the right direction, but to see significant reading jumps, these skills must be strengthened.  And this is what we do at LearningRx in Savage and how we helped Weston.  His results were tremendous! Here’s what Weston’s mom shared with us after his training was complete:

“LearningRx has been excellent in helping my son improve his ability to focus and block out distractions. He loved working one on one with his trainer, and he developed an excellent rapport with her. Throughout his training he has significantly improved his ability to process information. Before beginning the program tasks with multiple steps were next to impossible for him to complete on his own. Now he is able to understand and remember multiple steps in order to complete a task. His reading and writing skills have also improved. The majority of his training was completed over his summer break. His trainer was able to make each session engaging and fun. When he went back to school this fall his reading had improved by four levels. Overall, LearningRx has helped my son have more confidence in himself and recognize his progress in learning. I can’t thank them enough for helping him improve his focus, organization and reading skills!”
