Scientific Advisory Board

At LearningRx, our cognitive training programs are backed by peer-reviewed scientific research. We have invested over 35 years into ongoing research, development, and testing, and we have established a scientific advisory board to guide future brain training research and testing efforts.

The LearningRx scientific advisory board plays a key role in the development and testing of our programs. Our scientific advisors include experts on neuroscience and neuropsychology, early childhood development, speech and language pathology, and data science.

Cognitive Skills and Brain Training

Cognitive training, also known as brain training, is a method by which cognitive weaknesses can be strengthened. Brain training, when done one-on-one with a trainer, uses intense mental exercise to target and strengthen skills that aren’t performing as well as desired.

In the chart on the right, you can see the improvements that brain training made in the cognitive performance of 27,790 children and adults. * The scores are represented in percentiles, which show where someone ranks compared to 100 of their peers.

If you or someone you love is struggling with learning, readingattention, or memory, you can at least find out why. The first step is to take a Cognitive Skills Assessment to identify weak cognitive skills. If weak cognitive skills are at the root of struggles with learning or life, brain training may offer the solution you’re looking for.

(While individual results may vary, we’d love the opportunity to work with you or your child!)

Christina Ledbetter, PhD

Clinical Neuroscientist

Dr. Ledbetter is a clinical neuroscientist and researcher with a PhD in pharmacology, toxicology, and neuroscience. She specializes in functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and brain mapping for surgical planning.

In addition to her work with LearningRx, Dr. Ledbetter is a research fellow in the Department of Neurosurgery at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she is the Director of the Clinical Neuroimaging Lab. Her research expertise is applied to neurological conditions including cognitive impairment, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, brain tumors, and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Ledbetter is also President of the Gibson Institute for Cognitive Research.

With a background in both medical imaging and neuroscience, she is an expert at using fMRI to assess changes in the brain following neuroplasticity-based interventions with a particular interest in the Default Mode Network (DMN) and the correlation of changes in network connectivity with changes on neuropsychological testing measures.

Bonnie Nicks, CCC-MS

Speech & Language Pathologist

Bonnie Nicks, CCC-MS, is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, and is also certified in Multisensory Structured Literacy Methodology. She is the founder of The Learning Center in Bowling Green, KY.

Operating since 2007, The Learning Center provides specialized intervention for students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD. Bonnie offers evaluations for diagnosing learning disabilities as well as literacy therapy programs to help struggling readers.

Bonnie has centered her life on helping struggling learners. During her thirty year career in public school systems, Bonnie observed holes in the education programs centered around students who learn differently. She dedicated her research and her business to these students, hoping to fill those holes through research-based tutoring methods.
