At LearningRx in Shoreview, Minnesota, one of the highlights of our center—especially from a student’s perspective—is our prize cabinet! Packed with all sorts of fun and engaging goodies, our cabinet includes everything from cuddly Squishmallows and brainy board games to colorful pencils, silly stickers, and gift cards to favorite local spots. Students can “shop” from the cabinet using points they earn throughout their training journey. And let’s just say, the excitement is real when it’s time to cash in those hard-earned points!
Students can earn points in all kinds of ways—demonstrating full effort in sessions, showing off their Brain Ninja pride by wearing their t-shirts, completing book reports, and bringing their best selves to Brain Lab. Every point earned is a small step toward a bigger goal, and the rewards are more than just tangible—they’re motivational. By recognizing small wins along the way, our system helps students stay engaged, enthusiastic, and focused throughout their training program.
While the prize cabinet provides fun external motivation (and who doesn’t love a Squishmallow now and then?), we’ve also seen how extrinsic rewards can help foster deeper, intrinsic motivation over time. When students begin to associate their effort and growth with positive outcomes—both in training and in life—the motivation to succeed starts to come from within.
