My name is Micky, and I’m a Certified Cognitive Skills Trainer at LearningRx. When I say this role has been life-changing, I don’t just mean for me, I mean for my students too. I first came to LearningRx while I was a college student at Metropolitan State University. I was studying Child Psychology and Cognitive Psychology, and LearningRx felt like the perfect place to use what I was learning in the classroom while also continuing to grow.
Looking back, I can say with confidence that my time here has helped me gain so much knowledge, but it has also encouraged me to set new goals for myself and for the future. Now that I’ve graduated, I know I want to keep working at LearningRx. It has been such a rewarding experience, and I am constantly reminded why I love this work.
The Challenges That Shape Me
Being a trainer does come with challenges, but those challenges are often the most rewarding part. Each day looks different, and every student has their own personality, learning style, and set of cognitive skills. That means we get to approach every program with a fresh perspective. Sometimes that requires adjusting on the spot, finding a new way to connect, or shifting how we tackle an activity. When you see a student light up because the approach clicked, it makes every bit of effort worth it. This role has made me quicker to adapt, not just in the training center, but in other parts of my life too.
How Students Grow to Love It
When families first look into LearningRx, it’s no secret that many students are reluctant to start. The idea of “extra schoolwork” can be frustrating. But what I love about LearningRx is that it isn’t tutoring. We are a brain training center.
Our programs are filled with activities that are designed to challenge the brain while still being engaging and fun. I’ve had students who started out hesitant and quickly turned into students who look forward to their sessions. They begin to enjoy the activities, they start to overcome challenges, and their progress really shows.
What Inspires Me Every Day
What keeps me here are the moments when a student’s hard work really starts to shine through. Seeing their faces light up when they realize they can do something they once thought was too hard is incredible. Those are the moments that make this work so meaningful to me. LearningRx has shaped me in so many ways, but more than anything, it has given me the chance to be part of a bigger story. I get to watch students unlock their potential and build skills that will support them for the rest of their lives.
