If you are seeking help for a loved one with a dyslexia diagnosis, you may be wondering how LearningRx training in Eagan can help.
LearningRx Training Results for People with Dyslexia
Roughly 1 in 10 students that come to LearningRx have a dyslexia diagnosis. The data shows that among 3,082 kids and teens with dyslexia who completed our reading program, the average gain in reading skills was 3.5 years. And in a research study with 3,527 children, the average gain in phonological awareness was 5.8 years in just 24 weeks.
LearningRx Peer-Reviewed Research Related to Reading Struggles
In addition to the data, peer-reviewed research published in the journal Psychology Research and Behavior Management demonstrated significant improvements for those with reading struggles.
In a research study with more than 3,500 struggling readers (including individuals with dyslexia), researchers found statistically significant changes in both reading skills and cognitive skills after 24 weeks of training with ReadRx.
- The average gain across five reading skills was 4.1 years in just 24 weeks.
- The average gain in phonological awareness was nearly 6 years in just 24 weeks.
- The average gain in phonetic coding was 5.5 years in just 24 weeks.
- The average gain in spelling was 2.2 years in just 24 weeks.
- The average gain in Word Attack was 2.9 years in just 24 weeks.
- The average gain in IQ score was nearly 14 points.
- Parents reported improvements in cognition, academic performance, and psychosocial skills.
How Does LearningRx Training Work with People Who Have Dyslexia?
The LearningRx ReadRx program is a structured literacy intervention. What sets LearningRx apart from other structured literacy and reading interventions is the focus on building strong cognitive skills first because they are the foundation for all learning. For those with dyslexia, common cognitive weaknesses include areas like memory, auditory or phonological processing, visual processing and processing speed. If these core skills are weak, students will struggle to read and comprehend.
Cognitive Skills and Reading
- Memory skills enable the ability to retain all the strange rules in our language that can make reading so hard. Without strong memory, students struggle with work recognition and lack the ability to read non-phonetic words like “laugh” or “said”. Memory skills are also critical for reading comprehension.
- Auditory/phonological processing provides the ability to process and blend sounds – the key component to decoding.
- Visual processing enables the ability to recognize and process words while also aiding with reading comprehension.
- Processing speed enables strong reading fluency. When processing speed is slow, reading is less fluent and often students experience reading fatigue as it takes mental effort to read and process.
If your loved one has any of these weaknesses, their progress in any reading intervention will be limited unless these weaknesses are strengthened. The reason LearningRx reading training has been effective is due to our focus on identifying how dyslexia is “showing up” cognitively and strengthening these weaker skills.
This is true of Stefanie who recently shared regarding her daughter’s LearningRx experience:
“Before starting at LearningRx, my daughter struggled a lot and she hated school, especially math. After being diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia last summer, we were searching for something that could truly help her. Since beginning her program at LearningRx, we’ve seen a major transformation in her confidence and her overall mood have improved so much! Even her teacher has noticed a positive difference. Choosing LearningRx was one of the best decisions we’ve made for her, and we’re so grateful for the impact it’s had on her growth and happiness.”
LearningRx Builds Stronger Readers
Dyslexia does not need to be a scary diagnosis as the root cause can be identified and addressed. The first step is to reach out to the LearningRx Eagan team to schedule an initial assessment. This assessment will identify how dyslexia or reading problems are manifesting for your child and enable an individualized reading skill training plan to address these root causes.
