Sandy Zamalis

Owner & Executive Director | LearningRx Staunton-Harrisonburg

Sandy Zamalis leads LearningRx Staunton-Harrisonburg as the owner, Executive Director and Board Certified Cognitive Specialist. Her journey into brain training began in 2012 when she discovered a better way to help struggling learners beyond traditional classroom methods.

As a former homeschooling mom and aspiring teacher, Sandy witnessed firsthand how cognitive weaknesses (not lack of effort) prevented students from succeeding. This revelation led her to LearningRx, where she found evidence-based methods that address the root causes of learning struggles.

Under Sandy’s leadership, the center has grown to two locations and achieved independent board certification, serving families throughout Staunton, Harrisonburg, and the Shenandoah Valley. She has personally worked with hundreds of clients, from elementary students struggling with reading difficulties to adults seeking to improve memory and processing speed to stay sharp.

Sandy’s mission: To help individuals overcome learning challenges by building strong cognitive foundations that can lead to unshakeable self-confidence and greater success in school, work, and life.

Lisa

Assistant Director & Trainer Mentor

Lisa is a certified brain trainer at LearningRx with over 10 years of experience working with children. She specializes in one-on-one cognitive skills training, helping kids strengthen core mental abilities like memory, attention, processing speed, and problem-solving.

Lisa is passionate about the LearningRx approach because it delivers measurable, visible results.

“I love how quickly I can see improvements in the kids I work with, and watch as they become self-motivated to conquer challenging activities,” she says.

Sessions with Lisa are both rigorous and engaging, making difficult mental work feel like a challenge worth taking on.

Outside of training sessions, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and pets, and performs at local open mic events.

Ashley McDaniel

Brain Trainer

Ashley McDaniel is a brain trainer at LearningRx and a certified literacy tutor educator with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English. With a background in music theory, piano, and homeschooling her own four children, Ashley brings a uniquely well-rounded perspective to one-on-one cognitive skills training.

Ashley creates a supportive, confidence-building environment for every student she works with.

“I love that I am a part of being a safe space for my students. As I support them in strengthening their brains, I watch their confidences grow milestone by milestone,” she says.

A poet and author of middle grade fantasy, Ashley is a passionate advocate for literacy and lifelong learning. She encourages all of her students to develop a love of reading that extends well beyond the training center.

Our brain training team includes individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds in education, psychology, and child development. Our center is independently board certified through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), and all trainers complete extensive LearningRx certification training in cognitive assessment and one-on-one brain training methodologies.

Our team has over a decade of combined experience in cognitive training and education throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Director Sandy Zamalis has been with LearningRx since 2012 and has personally helped hundreds of clients in Staunton, Harrisonburg, Waynesboro, and surrounding areas overcome learning challenges. Our Assistant Director Lisa brings over 10 years of experience working with children, and our trainers have diverse backgrounds that enhance their ability to connect with clients of all ages.

Yes! Our cognitive trainers work with clients of all ages throughout the Shenandoah Valley and remotely. We have specialized programs that support elementary and high school students struggling with ADHD, reading, or other learning challenges; adults seeking to improve memory, processing speed, and cognitive fitness; and seniors looking to maintain cognitive sharpness through our Brain Strong for Seniors program. Each client receives personalized one-on-one training tailored to their specific needs and goals.

Our brain training specialists serve families throughout the Shenandoah Valley, including Staunton, Harrisonburg, Waynesboro, Bridgewater, Dayton, Fishersville, Lexington, and surrounding communities in the greater Augusta County and Rockingham County areas. We have two convenient locations to serve Virginia families seeking cognitive training solutions, but we can also work with you remotely if coming into the center is not realistic.
