LearningRx Student of the Year Runner-Up LaRon Furdge: A 2022 Success Story

As 2022 comes to a close, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate all that has happened here at LearningRx throughout the year. Our clients accomplish amazing things each year, and every one of them is worth celebrating.

LearningRx Raleigh student LaRon Furdge was a runner-up for LearningRx Student of the Year this year. His story is one example of the effect that LearningRx’s programs can have on the lives of our students and their families.

LaRon’s Background and Learning Struggles

A Student of the Year nomination was especially sweet for LaRon and his family. Before coming to LearningRx, his parents knew something wasn’t quite right with his learning

LaRon was evaluated by two different doctors, and both doctors said he didn’t meet the minimum requirements for a diagnosis. But he and his parents knew his short-term memory wasn’t working effectively. His parents would tell him to do something, and he would quickly forget what they told him to do.

They tried many avenues to get him help, including a relatively expensive computer program, but nothing helped him improve. Then they found LearningRx.

How Brain Training With LearningRx Helped LaRon Improve at School, at Home … and at Football

After training with LearningRx, LaRon’s parents say they see a stark difference in how he has performed in school and at his favorite activity—football.

LaRon’s dad said, “That first month was exciting. It was exciting for us throughout the whole program, but that first month I remember just feeling butterflies that he’s on his way to getting the help that he needs.”

LaRon himself started seeing improvement both at school and at home. He was able to listen better and remember what he was told.

As a quarterback on his football team, LaRon had struggled to remember the plays and formations. But once he started working with LearningRx, that changed. He was able to remember the plays his coach gave him, as well as where his teammates were supposed to line up. As he improved, those around him noticed too. He began to receive more and more compliments and rewards for the good job he was doing, which boosted his confidence.

Both LaRon and his parents are thrilled with the progress LaRon has made. Here’s how they described the difference:

LaRon’s mom said, “before LearningRx, it was confusion and now it is zen.”

“Before LearningRx was frustration, after LearningRx, less frustration,” LaRon’s dad added, with a big smile on his face.

And LaRon shared, “before, I was really lost. And when I was lost, I didn’t know my way back. So when they found LearningRx it felt like I found a way back to where I needed to be … I really did have a good experience with them, and I felt like I was back to being me again. I felt very comfortable with myself.”
