What Answers Can You Get From A Cognitive Skills Assessment?

What Answers Can You Get from a Cognitive Assessment?

At LearningRx, the first step towards helping you or your loved one is to complete a cognitive skills assessment.

The LearningRx assessment is a different type of assessment than a school or tutoring assessment.   These assessments usually provide information related to academic performance – at what level does my child read?  How is her reading comprehension?  What percentile is my child performing in math?

This information can be helpful, but the cognitive skills assessment from LearningRx will tell you why your child is struggling in these areas. This is invaluable and a critical question to answer.  Why does my child struggle to read?  Why does my son have difficulty with attention?  Why is she not motivated?

My wife and I experienced this firsthand. Our youngest daughter was struggling and completed a full neuropsychological evaluation. As a result, she was diagnosed with ADHD, receptive and expressive language delays and sensory integration disorder. This was interesting, but we were still left wondering “why” and what we could do beyond treating the symptoms with ADHD medication and an IEP. Our eyes were opened after her LearningRx assessment revealed one of her struggles was slow processing speed. This low cognitive skill was the root cause of her attention issues as her brain had to work so hard to process, that she could not maintain this high level of energy and she would zone out or get distracted. She also struggled with reading. She was getting reading help at school, but we were not seeing improvement. The assessment uncovered that her reading difficulties were due to low memory and auditory processing. Having this information helped us better relate and sympathize with our daughter and provided the insights we needed to address the root cause and help her overcome her struggles. Catie is about to get her degree, loves reading and has been off her ADHD medication for years. Thankfully, LearningRx was able to provide the ADHD help and reading help she needed.

This assessment information enables us to address the root cause as to why your child is struggling.  It also provides critical information which focuses the efforts of our 1-on-1 training as our training is 1-on-1 and individualized to each client’s needs.

We focus on the specific areas causing the learning issue vs. a general approach that may or may not address the issue.  The assessment results will tell you the root cause as to why your child is struggling. The reason so many students participate in tutoring or school interventions year-after-year and do not see improvement is because the root cause of the struggles have not been identified or addressed through cognitive skills training.

At the Woodbury LearningRx location, our assessment is currently $100 off the standard price of $199.  For $99, you will receive invaluable information about your child that will focus your efforts to get the kind of help your child needs.
