Texas Education Freedom Account Funds Are Coming Soon: What Texas Families Need to Know

Texas families will soon have access to a new source of education funding designed to give parents more choice and flexibility in how they support their child’s learning. The Texas Education Freedom Account program will help eligible families pay for approved educational expenses, including services beyond traditional classroom instruction.

Even better, LearningRx is an approved vendor, which means families who receive funds can use them with us for eligible services.

What can the TEFA funds be used for?

Texas Education Freedom Account funds can be used for a range of approved educational expenses. Examples include:

  • Academic assessments
  • Private tutoring
  • Educational therapies (when not covered by other government benefits)
  • Transportation to and from approved providers

There are guidelines and limitations (for example, certain expenses have caps, and funds generally cannot be paid to family members).

Why these funds are so valuable for families and children

For many families, the challenge is not caring. It is access.

1) They make support possible earlier

When a child struggles, waiting can be costly. These funds can help families pursue services sooner, before gaps widen and confidence drops.

2) They give parents more control

Every child learns differently. This program helps families choose services that fit their child’s needs, not just what is available in one setting.

3) They support the whole learning process

Some students need more than homework help. They may need targeted support like assessments, tutoring, or learning-focused interventions that address the “why” behind the struggle. Approved expenses include academic assessments and tutoring, which can be a meaningful part of a child’s support plan.
