Time to Catch Up!

Is your child behind in reading or math? A recent article published in The Washington Post entitled “National Test Scores Plunge, With Still No Sign of Pandemic Recovery” reported that average math and reading scores across the country have plummeted.

But most concerning is that the hardest hit were those students who were already struggling — seeing twice the decline compared to students who were stronger performers.

If your child was struggling before the pandemic or is younger and missed some of the building blocks to effective learning, our cognitive skills training programs address the root cause of learning struggles and can help your child catch-up.

We just received this testimonial from a recent LearningRx graduate:

“LearningRx helped our daughter gain confidence in all areas of learning. Their training pulled her out of a huge learning deficit! We are thrilled with her results. She is doing so much better in reading and all aspects of school. Thank you!”

The root cause for students who have consistent struggles in reading and/or math is usually a combination of cognitive skills that are holding them back.

For example, students who struggle with reading usually have cognitive weaknesses in memory and auditory processing.  Memory is a critical reading skill as roughly 60% of our language consists of non-phonetic words like “laugh” or “said”.  These words can only be memorized.

Auditory processing is a child’s ability to segment and discriminate sounds. When this skill is low, decoding and blending is difficult, and students struggle to sound out words.  Recent research published in Psychology Research and Behavior Management showed a 4.1-year gain in reading skills and almost a 6-year gain in phonological processing – in only 24 weeks of LearningRx training!

For those who struggle with math, often skills like logic and reasoning, working memory or long-term memory are low.  Logic is a child’s ability to comprehend and problem solve.  Working memory provide the ability to hold and organize thoughts for tasks like mental math.  Long-term memory is key to retaining math facts or formulas,

Typical tutoring or school interventions do not address these root causes as they focus on the symptom. Don’t let your child continue to struggle. Call the Savage location to schedule an initial assessment today!
