8-year-old Dunwoody Student Named Second Runner-up in National Brain Training Contest

Brody Hawkins strengthened his brain skills at LearningRx Atlanta-Buckhead

For Immediate Release – (Atlanta, GA.)—LearningRx (www.LearningRx.com), the largest personal brain training company in the world, has announced 8-year-old Brody Hawkins of Dunwoody as the second runner-up of its national brain training contest.

Each year, LearningRx hosts a competition among its graduates across the United States to decide who experienced the greatest cognitive skills gains after completing personal brain training. Brody’s success story, along with those of four other students, earned them a spot in the Top 5 finalists. LearningRx announced the winners at the company’s national convention on July 21.

Before LearningRx, Brody hated reading. He avoided reading even simple sentences with his parents and was not eager to improve his abilities. Brody’s parents are avid readers who really want to raise Brody to love reading, not just for school, but also for fun. When Brody began emergency homeschooling last spring, and then continued in a virtual classroom this fall, they knew that he wouldn’t be able to improve his reading skills without help.

Brody was reluctant at the beginning of his training program because he was certain he would fail procedures and didn’t see immediate improvements in some of the drills. But he persevered and has since become a fluent reader!

Brody’s trainer, Hani, says of him beginning to read independently, “This was the same kid who would be frustrated about reading one sentence of instructions on Visual Thinking cards! His newfound joy and freedom in reading has not slowed. And it has given him the confidence to push through every other challenging procedure he faces. Brody is a great example of the impact that brain training has on a student who refuses to keep letting his struggles keep him from striving and achieving. I used the word ‘joy’ earlier to describe Brody’s new love of reading, but it is also a joy to be his trainer. To watch his joy at doing hard things and knowing that not only has he done his best, but his best is getting better. For these reasons, I strongly support his nomination for Student of the Year!”
