The Brains Behind Our Cognitive Skills Training Programs

To ensure our brain training centers offer the best experience for our clients, LearningRx needs a leadership team that is committed to continually delivering optimal results. We are proud to introduce you to some of the leaders who help make our programs the best they can be and guide us into the future of cognitive enhancement. Their hard work and dedication to improving the lives of our clients shows in the results and reviews from clients and their families.

Get to know a little bit more about our leaders below.

Dr. Ken Gibson

Dr. Ken GibsonDr. Ken Gibson has held a lifelong passion for helping struggling clients learn faster and easier. He started his professional career as a pediatric vision specialist before discovering that brain training provided the greatest gains for clients who were struggling to read or learn. Dr. Gibson spent the next several decades developing programs to measure and train core cognitive skills, in the process training more than 1,000 professionals in education and psychology to use his techniques. In 2002, Dr. Gibson founded LearningRx to make brain training available to more families. Today, LearningRx is the largest one-on-one brain training company in the world, with approximately 80 centers across the United States and programs in more than 45 countries.

Kim Hanson

Kim HansonKim Hanson is the Chief Executive Officer of LearningRx. She began her leadership role with the organization in 2004 as Executive Vice President and was named CEO in 2017. Her career passion is to help professionals, educators, and parents learn more about cognitive skills training and the dramatic results it can have on real-life performance.

Prior to her time with LearningRx, Ms. Hanson worked in education with second and fifth graders at several inner-city schools in Nashville and Minneapolis. She is Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) and is a graduate of North Central University in Minneapolis. Ms. Hanson is the proud daughter of Dr. Ken Gibson, founder of LearningRx, with whom she co-authored the book Unlock the Einstein Inside: Applying New Brain Science to Wake Up the Smart in Your Child.

Beyond the workplace, she currently enjoys mentoring high school and college students as they identify future career options. In addition, she is a vocal advocate for the civil rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Ms. Hanson has been married to Dr. Wayne Hanson for over 25 years and together they are busy raising their four children: Lily, Zac, Max, and Gracie. In her free time, Ms. Hanson loves creating custom pottery for family and friends. She also loves watching football on Sundays, as she is a diehard Green Bay Packers fan.

Dean Tenpas

Dean Tenpas isDean Tenpas the Chief Operating Officer at LearningRx. Mr. Tenpas oversees finance, human resources, technology, and the operations departments. Prior to his current role, Mr. Tenpas served as Executive Vice President. With a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin, Mr. Tenpas also co-created many of the company’s cognitive training exercises and programs, as well as the ReadRx® reading program and assessments used by clinicians and brain training centers in the United States and around the world.

Dean, his wife Candy and their five children ages 8-17, love the outdoors and sports; with swimming and ultimate frisbee being their biggest commitments in recent years. They love hosting people at their home and living in the mountains of Colorado.

Lisa Juhl

Lisa Juhl is undefinedthe Vice President of Marketing at LearningRx. She began her career as an account executive at Focus Marketing, The Westport Marketing Group, and later, was recruited by Glendinning Associates, Inc., headquartered in Connecticut, London, and Paris. Glendinning was founded by the late Ralph Glendinning — the businessman, philanthropist, and author who is credited as starting the first marketing promotion company in the world.

As Glendinning’s Director of Promotion Services, Lisa was responsible for conceiving and developing national consumer and trade promotion programs for JW Marriott, Nabisco, Crayola, Hertz, and a host of Fortune 500 companies.

In 1992, she moved to Colorado and worked in various marketing capacities for Deluxe Corporation, the UCHealth Neurosciences service line, and the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. She has served as a marketing consultant on several boards in Colorado Springs, including YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, Court Care, and Community Prep School — all of which focus on building community services and improving the lives of children.

Outside of work, Lisa loves spending time with her children and family, entertaining and cooking with friends, photography, boating, and jet skiing. Having a long-held fascination with psychology and consumer behavior, she also likes to watch true-crime tv. (Popcorn, anyone?!?)

Amanda DuplantisAmanda's headshot

As Director of Support, Amanda Duplantis oversees the support of brain training programs and business processes for all LearningRx Centers and their owners. With over 14 years of experience, Amanda has held almost every position within a LearningRx Center.

She joined the Home Office team in 2016 as the Director of the Colorado Springs Center and support team business coach.

In addition to her work with LearningRx, Amanda has experience managing before and after care programs and leading RTI (Response to Intervention) efforts in charter schools. She serves in leadership positions on several local nonprofit boards, such as the Junior League of Colorado Springs, the Colorado Springs Charter Academy, and the Gibson Institute of Cognitive Research. Amanda is passionate about developing the potential in others within the LearningRx system and beyond.

Originally from Louisiana, Amanda enjoys cooking Cajun food for friends and hosting crawfish boils out at her family ranch. On the weekends, she enjoys riding her horse, walking her 130-pound Newfoundland named “Gumbo”, or catching up on the latest true crime podcast.

Natalie SpeakmanNatalie's headshot

Natalie Speakman is the Director of Development at LearningRx and oversees the marketing and sales of the company’s new brain training franchises and licenses. Natalie began her career at LearningRx in 2010 where she assumed two business-building roles. First, as Center Director for the corporate-owned LearningRx franchise in Colorado Springs, Colorado and then, as a Business Coach supporting the company’s entire network of franchise owners.

With 10+ years’ experience in the brain training industry, along with a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, Natalie has made significant (and lasting) contributions to LearningRx’s systems, training processes, marketing efforts, and franchisee support programs.

A resident of Colorado Spring since 1985, Natalie considers herself a Colorado native and loves to take advantage of the beauty and outdoor lifestyle of the state. Outside of work, Natalie enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and extended family, along with sampling new cuisines, taking long mountain drives, hiking, and watching live or broadcast comedy.
