“LearningRx first visited us through the mail. My wife and I received a LearningRx Digest explaining what cognitive skills training was all about. At the time, our first grader, Jaden, had already been diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADHD, and was struggling midway through the school year. He was not connecting with his teacher or peers in spite of the “IEP” program already set in place. He vocalized his disdain for school and would often refuse to do his in-class assignments. We knew this wasn’t because of a lack of “smarts.” My wife and I worked diligently with his teacher to remedy this. There was even a suggestion to medicate, but we would not bend on this matter, and refused. We believed that there had to be a better way, and we found it through LearningRx.
We started Jaden with LearningRx in early 2008. The initial assessment clearly showed that Jaden has some cognitive weaknesses in memory and problem solving, but he also had strengths that offset those weaknesses. Our goal was to find equilibrium, so Jaden would find success in school. Just after two weeks of working in the program, Jaden showed definite improvement in school. Classroom assignments were being completed, homework was no longer a trudge in the mud, and best of all, and his attitude for school was not as negative. He found his second wind and completed the first grade like a “4th of July” celebration. His “IEP” instructors were all amazed, and his teacher received daily hugs from Jaden. LearningRx made a difference and helped us get over what we had feared to be an impassible wall.”
