“While we were all fighting back tears at the Program Review this week, a graduating TBI student who sufferred his injury in a serious mountain biking accident on Pike's Peak last year and was airlifted off the mountain, had this to say...

“I STARTED THE PROGRAM BROKEN, AND HAVE FINISHED REPAIRED. LEARNING RX HAS PROVIDED ME WITH A SECOND CHANCE IN LIFE AND PROVIDED THE TOOLS TO ACHIEVE ANY COGNITIVE CHALLENGE IN MY WAY.”

“Before this program, Aaron couldn’t even follow the plot in a movie. He once mentioned he wished he could understand the “Back to the Future” trilogy because it looked like so much fun. If he was copying a sentence, he would have to look back to almost every word. Homework took from 4:00 to 11:00 every day and all weekend. By 10th grade, he had burned out. Conversations with him were very difficult; most of the time was spent trying to explain what we were talking about. But, he would still just walk away in frustration.

When we went for the initial evaluation, we both knew this was exactly what he needed. He started to get something he hadn’t had before; hope. As he continued training, we noticed that his memory was improving and his comprehension, not just in school, but in everyday life, was getting better on an almost daily basis. His friends noticed the difference enough to actually tease him about “getting smart”.

He hoped that the changes would immediately manifest themselves in all subjects in school, but even though some of them came slower than he wanted, he now knew they were coming. Aaron is looking forward to the next school year for the first time ever. He now surprises his family and friends with what he says, because conversations with him have changes so drastically. One the final testing, he had improved anywhere from three to nine years in cognitive skills, and was so excited about the results, he brought them to school to show his teachers. He told me, “I always knew I had a good brain, I just didn’t know how to use it!” A couple of weeks ago, we rented the ”Back to the Future” trilogy and watched a movie a night. He loved it!”

“I work at my son’s school and all the teachers and counselors have noticed great improvement that he has made, both behavior wise and academically. A lot of the teachers that have been sending me their parents that have had issue similar to Isaiah’s because they have seen such a great improvement in his work. In school, teachers and the counselor have noticed how well Isaiah is doing both behavior wise and academically. They have been sending parents to talk to me about the program. Because of the changes they have seen in Isaiah and they are very interested in it. Some of the teachers are very skeptical about the program because it’s not the typical tutoring program, but after the changes they have seen in Isaiah, they are very, very impressed.”

“Prior to LearningRx, Andrew struggled with visual processing which affected homework organization and the ability to retain things he studied. He’d study and still did poorly because things weren't sticking. His mind was trained to be able to "see" the things he was missing. Work became easier and he enjoyed it. He was pleased he stuck through and progressed as well as he did. He thought it was cool Mom and Dad couldn't do some of the exercises he could. After LearningRx, organization was easier for Andrew and visual processing increased. Studying is fun because there isn't frustration there was before. He can concentrate on learning what he needs and he'll retain the info. This shows in increases grades and he’s much happier. LearningRx has been a blessing to him.”

“In the summer of 2003, our family decided to sign Ashley up for the LearningRx program. She had a difficult year in school and continually struggled with poor self-esteem. Reading was not her favorite thing to do! She believed that she was not as smart as the other children in school. As parents, it broke our heart to see Ashley struggle so much with school related issues.

We participated in the 12-week program with LearningRx. Our instructor was a blessing to Ashley. She recognized Ashley’s particular struggles and tailored the program to fit her needs. We began to see Ashley’s confidence climb, bit by bit. LearningRx was a huge commitment for our family but we are grateful that we had the opportunity to participate in and complete the program.

Ashley is on her way to truly believing that she is smart. Approximately three months after completing LearningRx we saw a huge difference in her attitude toward reading. It appeared to happen very spontaneously, however, we believe it had everything to do with the LearningRx program. For the first time in her life she was excited to read. She began asking us if she could stay up at night and read. It has been a joy to watch Ashley gain confidence in herself over the last year.”

“Ben is faster at adding and subtracting in his head. He also takes his time and doesn’t skip over the instructions. His concentration and memory have both improved.

The biggest success has been in Ben’s reading. He can now sound out words and his spelling has improved. He is actually reading on his own now. He used to memorize or guess at the words. Now he really knows how to sound out the words. He reads faster and with expression now. He read out loud for all his relatives for the first time in December. He likes to read now and doesn’t avoid it like he used to. He seems more confident and less frustrated. He still skips or adds words but not nearly as often as he used to. He now has the tools he needs to read anything he wants. His writing has also improved. He used to leave out the vowels and spell so badly that you couldn’t read his writing.”
