“Anna has come great lengths since she began the Learning Rx Liftoff program. While she was able to successfully sing the alphabet song, she was unable to say the letters of the alphabet in order or associate each letter with its correct sound. Not only is she now able to correctly identify all letters and sounds, but she is blending multiple sounds to create full words. Her confidence has improved enormously and she now regularly attempts to read new words on her own. “When Joshua arrived at LearningRx his mother was concerned first and foremost about his inability to read at such an advanced age. She had tried to no avail to teach him to “sound out” words and letters phonetically, sparking the search for a solution. Joshua’s cognitive abilities were certainly hindered however his optimistic attitude and compliant behavior certainly has contributed to the successes he has had in the program. Not even half way through the program we received a call from Josh’s mother who joyusly recanted through tears of joy that Joshua had just read her a book for the first time. “Sebastian arrived at LearningRx with a severe language barrier. Aside from spanish being his native language it is the only language spoken in his household. When he first arrived Sebastian informed me that even when he speaks english amongst his peers he is thinking one hundred percent of the time in spanish.Certainly internally translating every thought was affecting his ability to perform scholastically and comprehend instruction.
